im looking to buy a pc, much like everyone else here.

here is what i was looking at.

intel i7-2600k £235
asus p8p67 evo rev 3 £156
nividia gtx 590 £568
120gig ocz vertex 2 £160
WD 1TB black £65
corsair ax 850 gold £145
corsair vengance 1600mhz (2x4gig) £83
cooler master haf-x £125

total £1537 or $2520

dunno if im going a bit overkill on the graphics, (probarbly am) but most importantly am i creating a bottle neck in my system.

now i know you've all been waiting to flame me for not metioning a after market cpu cooler, so care to suggest one.

also i guess i gotta add windows 7 onto that which is like another £120

thanks for the replies ryan

Uhh I'm pretty much the only one that flames you for not including a CPU cooler. I'd recommend the Thermalright Archon, since the RAM has pointlessly large heatsinks which makes it impossible to use the Silver Arrow. The GTX 590 and Radeon 6990 aren't good deals, and you're better with two cards in SLI/Crossfire.

Can you describe exactly what games, at what resolution, you are playing? Also, will you be using your system for anything else?

RE: ZOMG?!
well, i like my games to be the best graphics going so whats that 1080i??

game's - portal 2
battlefield 3
minecraft Tongue

will most likely be doing some video editing in there aswell

so the gtx 590 = 2x gtx 580 chips inside a single card with internal sli right. yet 2 singular gtx 580 in sli will out perform it??
i figured the performance would be roughly the same with gtx 590 performance lower due to reduction in performance to keep tempreature down, but also being a fair bit cheaper then 2x gtx 580

RE: ZOMG?!
Actually the GTX 590 is slower than 2 GTX 570 in SLI. It's HEAVILY underclocked.

Full HD 1080p isn't actually the best. It's merely average. You can have 1440p, high-end monitors, as well as dual or triple monitor setups.

For Full HD 1080p (a relatively low resolution), a GTX 590 is still overkill. One GTX 580 is more than enough, but I'd recommend two Radeon 6850, which offers slightly better performance but is cheaper. Any faster card and you won't see a difference.

Since you're doing video editing, the i7 will be good.

RE: ZOMG?!
Had to edit your title. As funny as it was, we're trying to keep things friendly for all age groups Tongue

Brian is right, a GTX 590 is significantly slower than two GTX 580 in SLI, even slower than two GTX 570 in SLI, due to its much lower frequencies. It's also a huge card, that requires specific case cooling (not to mention fitting in the case to begin with...)

In the vast majority of cases, I don't recommend the GTX 590, since there are much better cards for the price. Take a look at the "Best Video Cards For Your Money: April 2011" to help you figure out which card(s) to pick: http://www.hardware-revolution.com/best-...pril-2011/

Rest of the build looks good, except for the CPU Cooler. Brian recommended some already, I'll leave that to him Smile

RE: ZOMG?!
well after reading that article, i was looking at

gtx 570 sli for £528
gtx 580 for £385 (leaving room to upgrade)
amd 6950 crossfire £410 (and bios flashing to 6970's ??)
amd 6970 corrsifre £552

i've listed the 6970's because i know NOTHING about how to unlock it and wasnt sure if it was something a begginner would be able to do.

only going to be running a single monitor hopefully at the max resolution and everything i can get it to.

if this was your system, what would you choose??

RE: ZOMG?!
I'd go with the 6950 2GB in Crossfire. Best bang for your buck performance/price wise and they will have no problem running modern games maxed out on a single monitor (1920 x 1080 or 2560 x 1600) for a while.

I put the emphasis on getting the 2GB version, not the 1GB version, since 1GB of VRAM will eventually become a bottleneck, especially at a high resolution.

RE: ZOMG?!
thanks, guess its 2x 6950's for me then
just discovered that the heatsink on the vengance is just to make it look good, so im gonna swap that out for g.skill 1600mhz (2x4gig) ram then i can use the thermalight silver arrow.
