Tier 8- 6870 heating issue and space issue
Hello everyone,

So after successfully building the tier 8 I got it up and running. Everything was going well, until I started to notice the ASUS heat sensor pop up after I finished playing 20 minutes of Crysis.

I do not know if it was the heat, but the HIS sticker on the card started to come lose and fall the bottom card (as seen in the pics). Not only that but the card itself was getting to the mid 80s! The pci-e sensors were over 60 degrees on the mobo as well.

I am not sure if I am doing something wrong here, but all my fans are operating well and I have vented it well. Being a computer building neophyte, I could be wrong, but is there simply not enough space in the case? It looks really congested in the pcie area of the mobo.

Not sure what to do. Buy an aftermarket cooler or is this a known issue with AMD 6870?

Also what do you guys think about removing the side and using a room fan to blow air in?

60C is fine. It can easily withstand 90-100C.

Mid 80's is fine too, as Andrew pointed out, the cards can easily withstand 90-100C.

As for the sticker falling off, I'd think that it's a "manufacturer defect", it probably wasn't applied right and/or there isn't enough glue to hold it. Feel free to try to put it back on using some glue or simply remove it. Either way, it won't affect the functionality of your card.

Ahh... phew! That clears things up.
Time to turn off the annoying ASUS pop ups.

What do you guys think of the cooling with the side taken out? Using a room fan to blow air into the case ?

Thank you once again!

There's no need to, your temperatures are fine and if anything, it will increase noise, dust build-up and it leaves your fragile components without any protection from physical/liquid damage that the side panel provides. It just takes one kick or spilled drink to damage your components Wink

I know you had your question answered but I just had to say and ask something. I just did a new build, have pics up in the forum, and I did two other builds for friends the last few weeks, and I have to say you have SO MUCH room in that case! I've never seen a case with so much empty space. What case is it?

It's the Cooler Master HAF 932. The HAF X is even bigger though.
