This one is less expensive, has a slightly slower CPU and an IPS panel: http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-3840x2160-i...00XFZ7MEY/

I appreciate it. That looks like it's exactly what I want. Space won't be an issue really because I can just temporarily delete things or compress them, and it's quick.

I was really wondering, how much less could I pay for a laptop that's bulkier, noiser, and has less battery life? This laptop to me would be just a more convenient and smaller desktop, which I could use in limited mobile capacity.

If you want an Intel quad-core CPU, a 256GB SSD, a Nvidia GTX 960M and an IPS panel, you're not going to pay less than that.

You could get a 17.3" laptop if you want a bigger screen. I suggest that you shop around a bit, on Newegg, Amazon, B&H, etc.

What about Lenovo's spyware scandals? Or were those just blown out of proportion?

I know we have to ditch all our IBM stuff at work, but that's just b/c they're Chinese owned. (For security reasons. I work for a DoD Contractor...)

Yeah I'd like to get Mathieu's opinion on that. I had some suggestions on tom's hardware that I'm looking at.

Fixed. I appreciate the help.

I'd like you're opinion on that Lenovo con about the spyware.

RE: What's the smallest case I can stuff this in?
Looks like fine laptops, second one is the newer version, with nothing short of four M.2 slots and one SATA III, compared to two SATA III in the older version. More future-proof, takes less physical space, allows you to install more drives.

Great CPU, great GPU, can upgrade RAM all the way to 32GB (4 slots), great keyboard, 6x USB ports 3.0, surround sound.

Nothing about the screen being an IPS panel however.

As for spyware, nothing that an anti-spyware program (Spybot search & destroy, Ad-aware and Malwarebytes are the ones that I recommend), which you want for protection anyway, can't get rid of.

Here's a good review of the GT72: http://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GT72-No...916.0.html

RE: What's the smallest case I can stuff this in?
That stuff is very, very expsnive. The Lenovo looks like my best pick.

Or not, that Lenovo's ssd is only 256. As fast as it is, that's a small amount of space to work with.

How does compression work? Do I have to buy some separate software? Does anybody know a bit about compression?

Maybe I could work with 256 gb, I was a bit more confident before but my current disk is 450 or so.

If I choose that Lenovo anyone have any tips for me in keeping it small? In my current HDD I'm not sure where all the bloat is, I've unstalled a lot of games, downloads is pretty small, music is pretty small.

Regarding that spyware, I'm guessing windows default stuff doesn't detect it?
