Next Gen games=30fps cap and higher VRAM
i was doing a little research on some games coming out next month and found some interesting issues. first it looks like a lot of games and devs are going back to a 30fps cap in order to "pack" more into each frame for mostly third person, open world type games. Ubisoft and Bethesda say its so that games will look better and appeal to a more cinematic effect. on top of that, it looks like they are designing around 900p resolution. hmm, makes me wonder are these optimized for the new consoles and just being ported over to PC?

after looking at "the evil within" specs, it seems that they are recommending 4Gb VRAM just to play this game at 1080p and further stating on their forums that a 780ti 3Gb model might not even play this game at 1080p.(hopefully that is at ultra settings like shadow of mordor) WOW!!!! i remember, when AMD released those R9 gpu's with 4Gb of Vram and doubled memory interface, saying to myself what the heck. my guess is now that they designed those because of the consoles ability to use that 8gig of ddr5 as 4gig of system ram and 4 gig of vram or possibly because the mantle api uses an extra gig of vram.

so, have we taken a step back in PC gaming because of the new console ports? just thought i would share and maybe have some interesting input from some of you guys.

Yeah I saw the ubisoft post and couldn't decide which console I should buy?

ex-box; a weeee-U or a play-doh station. cheaper than the graphics card I want and I can play mario kart.

I read about that 30FPS cap. I think that "cinematic look" is just PR BS talk for "we're building for consoles". I can't think of a single game/movie that looks better at 30 FPS then 60.

I'm hoping the 4GB of VRAM is just to max out AA or something? That's crazy. Sounds like a lot of 4GB cards just became a better option for 1080p. Hopefully the 960 will still be 4GB.

Not sure if you're serious, but if it's between those 3, I'd go X-bone. Better integration with PCs, Home Theater, and better online services in general. I like the idea of gaming in one window, and DVR-ing a show in the other. Or watching a show in one and Skyping in the other. It runs 2 OS's to accomplish that. (Our living room includes my wife and a baby, so the TV is hotly contended.)

While the Wii-U has some fun exclusives, they're so far behind in online content, it's not even funny. The PS4 is still a little behind on the online services, and exclusive content, IMHO, and doesn't have all the infotainment bells and whistles (which I actually use, not everyone will).

1/2 serious, 1/2 sarcastic.

We have a Wii and there has been some talk of upgrading to something.

That said, Mario Kart is our most popular family game on the big screen.

Maybe we should just go outside and play Frisbee and ride bikes Smile
