Where's the dang non-reference R9 290's?
Was hoping they'd be around by Black Friday. Angry

I guess nobody's going to offer great deals on brand-new, 1-week-old GPUs anyway...

who knows, AMD may have restrictions on the partners, but the 290X was supposed to be at the end of this month. so hopefully in a couple of weeks.

you can always by the 290 on black friday or cyber monday(if they are on sale), and replace the cooler with an aftermarket one.

I'd guess that partners are doing extra validation to push frequencies even higher, now that they have access to higher quality coolers and that nvidia launched the gtx 780 ti. But yeah, a lot of people are waiting.. Amd is going to lose sales if they take too long.

Yeah, can't understand AMD's logic here. Based on the thermal throttling, I'd think a better cooled 290 would result in big jumps in performance.

Not sure if I want to mess with aftermarket coolers though...

FYI, apparently a lot of the earlier released R9 290's can have their BIOS flashed to 290X's. Depends on the batch your GPU came from. Smile

sapphire just announced a bios update for the r9-290 to increase performance and in the next few weeks will be releasing its own designs with redesigned cooling.
