Out of curiosity, what SSD do you have? It might just be that you need a firmware update.

Very interesting...I literally just this moment discovered the SSD is covered for a 3 year limited warranty. While at the web site guess what I discover? There are tons of people experiencing the same exact freeze I've been describing...and yes the solution seems to be a firmware update.
My model is Crucial CT064M4SSD2
Why oh why did I not check the SSD forums before all this wasted effort. Hope its a simple process, I almost don't feel like messing with this I've been in heaven all day my system is purring along.
As a side note I'd like to say MatheiuB this is the 2nd rig I've built following your recommendations the 1st one is right next to me running flawless since May 08' and my current rig built last September was perfect till now. I think you do good work have recommended your site to others and will continue to do so.
