Upgrade Windows XP to W7 or W8?
When I build a new PC, I will change my OS. It was going to be W7, but now W8 will be out before I build. I am not sure that I like W8, but I haven't tried it. I do use W7 at work and installed it on the PC I built dad. Convince me that W8 is better than W7.

Upgrade Windows XP to W7 or W8?
That wasn't one of the choices I asked about in my question. If I wanted to consider Linux I would have asked about it.

Unless you want the Metro Theme, go with Windows 7.

Upgrade Windows XP to W7 or W8?
Will Windows 7 continue to be sold the next several months? I have found a start8 program that adds the Windows 7 start button that allows W8 to startup on the desktop. As a result I might get better performance with Windows 8. I do think the metro interface is worse than Windows Vista ever became.

Upgrade Windows XP to W7 or W8?
I decided on Windows 8 for the increased speed and security. It works better with multiple monitors and it can be setup to look and feel like an improved Windows 7. The low upgrade price is also a reason. While I am going to install it on a new PC, I would still have an old Vista retail version that I can use for the previous version. It has never been upgraded and the PC it is on is leaving in addition to the one being replaced.

RE: Upgrade Windows XP to W7 or W8?
W8 is pretty much a major overhaul of W7, so it is meant to be faster and more secure. Some people don't like the metro theme and all, but I personally don't mind it.

The main downside to W8 is that it's going a new OS, meaning that there might be some small bugs that will need to be fixed by Microsoft. That's why they have the beta, but there are always a few bugs that make it through.

But yeah, if you're building a new PC, going with W8 makes more sense, especially considering the cost of an upgrade.
