Build Complete (Tier 5)
Thanks again to everyone for all the help. I am an old school (43!) now-part-time gamer who has been painfully using an Asus (gaming) laptop for the last two plus years. After putting it off for years, I put my very first roughly tier 5 build together over the weekend and fired up Skyrim last night - what a huge difference!Big Grin

Here are the specs:
Asrock P68 Extreme3 Gen3
Core i5 2500k
Hypermaster 212 plus Cooler
8GB G-Skill DDR3 RAM
Corsair Force GT 180GB SSD ($185 w/MIRExclamation)
Barracuda 500GB HHD
Sapphire Radeon 7850 (thanks, Phyrre56!)
Rosewill Hive 550W PSU
Lian Li PC-K9B Case

The NewEgg videos are great, but they say it will take 3-4 hours for assembly - maybe for all the seasoned pros out there that is true, but that was not my experience - good thing I took Friday off work. The sensation of stunned elation when the system fired up on the first try is priceless!

The only issue I am having at this point is that the case has 2 front panel USB 3.0 connections terminating in a 20-pin internal header; of course, my mobo only has USB 3.0 available on the I/O out back. The simplest solution seems to be an adapter cable offered by coolermaster:

The problem is I don't know where I can buy it - I have an email in to Coolermaster.

The new 25" Asus monitor should be in by tomorrow - can't wait to see how Skyrim and L4D2 look on that...

I used that same case for a low end workstation for Dad. It is actually a really good case for the money. Congrats on the build.

Isn't Skyrim a great game? I play it on a PS3 myself.
