A New Gaming Rig?
Hello guys, I would like to ask all of you for recommendations as to which parts to buy for a new rig.

This rig is to replace my aging (and dying) gaming computer built in 2009.
Its gone through a few upgrades during the time I've had it.

It's been BSODing on me during the last few days. It has an old AM2+ DDR2 motherboard (M3A78-CM), 4GB of cheap performance DDR2 ram, an AMD Phenom II X4 940 BE, and a 320GB 7200RPM HDD. One (or all) of those parts could be failing :x

So anyway, I can salvage its 2 DVD drives (one can only read), its Corsair 650W, the second 1TB 5400RPM HDD, and the HD4850 512MB (though I should probably upgrade that.)

I'll be playing games both old and new, mostly in 1366x768. I'd like to be able to play the newer games in maximum quality, though AA isn't important to me.

Thanks all!

Probably about $500. It's rather flexible.
I don't want to spend too much and go overkill, though I don't want it to get severely outdated within the next two or three years :3.

No, I don't live near any reputable computer parts retailer ):
My case was a very cheap ibuypower case that was laying around. It gets the job done. Poorly, but it works. I'd love to ditch it.

Oh yea.
My budget has recently just been raised to about $850.

Have you looked at the mainstream articles? http://www.hardware-revolution.com/best-...uary-2012/

You could look into a Tier 3 with an SSD. You don't need a new monitor cause your using your 1366x768 one? Another possibility is to step it down to a Tier 2+ and upgrade your monitor. What types of games you play? That could help decide if you want/need a better vid card or not.

RE: A New Gaming Rig?
Ill be playing mostly sandbox and openworld games like Skyrim, GTA4, New Vegas, and other games like Shogun 2 Total War.

I'd also like to use the graphic enhancing mods for Skyrim and New Vegas.

And yea, maybe a monitor upgrade wouldn't be a bad idea xD
And an update soon? That's perfect for me! Thanks! Big Grin
