New Tier 5ish Build
Well I finally got all (err most) of my parts and decided to take a swing at my first build. The day started with an hour drive to Microcenter to take advantage of the $50 off of motherboards with purchase of i5 2500k. I had originally planned to get the 2400 but it ended up being cheaper getting the 2500k and a better motherboard. Plus I'll have the option to overclock down the road should I choose. I just ordered the graphics card Friday so I that should be here around Tuesday and I need to decide on a monitor.

The build went pretty smoothly until I went to boot and got no response. It ended up being my case fan connection and it was troubleshooted within an hour thanks to Mathieu.

Anyways on to the specs and pics:

CPU: Intel i5 2500k (stock clock speed)
Mobo: ASRock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3
GPU: Sapphire Radeon 6870 (en route)
Power Supply: Rosewill Hive Modular 550w
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Optical: Asus DVD RW
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 1TB
Case: Antec 300 Illusion
Monitor: TBD, currently using my 32" LG HDTV

Pics:

*Pardon the cable management, that's another weekend's project.

Haha I'll be tearing up minesweeper at 100+ frames. I'll see how the integrated graphics react when I get a chance tonight.

RE: New Tier 5ish Build
It's actually a viable option, as long as you keep the resolution and graphic settings low.

Yup stock heat sink. I have no plans of overclocking, just ended up getting a good deal for the 2500k so I jumped on it.

Yeah the integrated graphics seem to be doing well, luckily I'm only stuck with them for a few more days. Smile

RE: New Tier 5ish Build
Recieved my 6870 today and tossed it in, no issues and I'm getting what I would think are good Windows Experience Index Scores.

Processor: 7.5
Memory: 7.6
Graphics: 7.8
Gaming Graphics 7.8
Primary Hard Disk: 5.9

My only question would be about the primary hard disk score, is that low or does it sound about right with a 1TB 7200 RPM drive?

I'm about to start firing up some games and see how it goes. Smile
