$1250 Workstation Build
Thanks to the HR for all the great advice!
I plan to build the $1250 Workstation as it is listed in HR with a some exceptions, GPU: GIGABYTE GV-R687OC-1GD Radeon HD 6870 1GB, because I want to be able to do some casual gaming. I can’t decide on the case. I am looking at: 1) LIAN LI PC-9F; 2) ANTEC 183 and 3) NZXT Phantom PHAN-001BK. I want this to be a quiet, reliable PC. Is the GPU a good choice overall or overkill and will it work with the ASUS Saberthooth MOBO? (I don’t see it on the MOBO supported list.) Which is the best quiet case? |

RE: $1250 Workstation Build
I recommend the Antec P183. It comes with noise-dampening side panels and a clean look. However the NZXT Phantom and Lian Li PC-9F are both excellent alternatives.

RE: $1250 Workstation Build
Thanks for your comments on the case choice...if I go with the ANTEC P183, should I go with the special ANTEC 850W PS that is made for that case or Seasonic Gold 750W.
Any comments on the GPU I am looking at? I will wait on the new $1250 Workstation HR Listing...Thanks.......I'm also hoping this new Intel release will cause some price drops! |

RE: $1250 Workstation Build
Not sure if I'm right or not but.. I noticed that, based of newegg on both the GPU and the MoBo you choose, that the GPU has a 2.1x16 Interface and the MoBo has 2.0x16.
Whether that .1 makes a difference, I'm not positive. But I'd assume that means the two aren't compatible with one another.

RE: $1250 Workstation Build
Virtually every motherboard is 2.0 and every (new) video card is 2.1. Yes they are compatible. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pci-express...xpress_2.1 for more info.
