New Build, Can't Install Windows
Hi all,

I just did my first build but after connecting all the components and setting up the bios (uefi) I can't seem to install windows using an OEM dvd of Windows7 Home Premium 64 bit I bought.

Here's the issue, after I go through the bios set up, I put the SSD as the primary boot option with the dvd drive as secondary (I've tried putting dvd as primary as well with no luck). I save the options and reboot but it just goes until it gets to a black screen with a single flashing underscore (_) in the upper left corner of the screen. At this point I can't do anything other than reboot.

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: New Build, Can't Install Windows
If you are running off dvd then that is what you will want to boot first.
if you are installing with usb then that should be the first to boot.
Try F12. it may give the menu.

Make sure you have your ssd sata cable in sata plug 1. Windows will try to install to that.

In case of an Asrock MoBo like mine press f11 before the 2nd asrock splash appears.
hope this helps.

RE: New Build, Can't Install Windows
Hey all, thanks for the advice. It actually turned out to be a problem with the sata cable that was connecting the the dvd drive to the mobo. One of the connecting ends got damaged and while there was still enough of a connection for the mobo to recognize the drive it wasn't enough to actually boot off of it. In any case I replaced that cable and all's well now.
