Can I build an X-51?
Hey all, I was wondering if its possible to build a nice tight little gaming rig like the x-51? If you look at the insides everything is nice and tight and modular for easy changing, now I know we can build a gaming rig for that price my question is can we build it that SIZE?

Thanks for the fast response, but I WAS hoping for maybe some examples of cases that tiny that can still hold a dual slot card and have an external power supply? Smile

No, not exactly however you can get a much more powerful computer and still keep the small factor using a case such as these. Alienware needs to stay in business so they have to use unique designs.

RE: Can I build an X-51?
Building a X-51 competitor is doable, but it requires quite a bit of research to figure out all the parts and make sure that they are all competitive and that they all fit together.

While there are cases that would fit the bill, such as http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811129039 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811280014 the problem is finding a low-profile video card that can compete with a GTX 555 which is faster than a Radeon HD 6770, but slower than a Radeon HD 6850/GTX 460.

The fastest low-profile card that I found on Newegg was a Radeon HD 6750, which is no where good enough. Perhaps with the 7xxx series we'll get something powerful enough.
