Asrock debug codes "A3" and "0d"
Trying to get this custom build running. When I boot without a keyboard plugged in, I get an "A3" ("IDE enable"??) debug code. So I plug in my USB keyboard, and I get an "0d" code ("Reserved for future AMI SEC error codes"???). I can get to the Asrock splash screen, and the keyboard is getting power, but the PC doesn't recognize any input (i.e., F2 for setup).

I don't have a PS2 keyboard handy, so any other ideas would be most appreciated.

Thank you!

Hey again,

Sorry to hear you are still having challenges with the mobo.

Know its an ASRock from last time (and title), but would help to know which one. I'm reading this from my iPhone, so tougher for me to navigate back to prior posts of yours if you maybe already mentioned it.

In these cases, would recommend you do hit the cmos flash button, or use the jumpers to force a bios flash and see what errors you get.

Also unplug (again) the bare minimums - per Mathieu's troubleshooting tips on the mainpage - like you did before and see if you have both errors after the cmos flash.

You still trying to use the Marvel sata ports? If you are, avoid them for now while troubleshooting, stick with the intel sata.

Also, never hurts to check your keyboard box to see if you have a small usb to ps/2 converter. Some of the standard keyboards have that in the box. Worth checking in any case if it comes down to you needing it.

RE: Asrock debug codes "A3" and "0d"
Thanks. It's a P67 Extreme 4 Gen 3, as per Mathieu's Tier 8.

I've had the "A3" code with the bare minimums installed, and still had it with peripherals added. I still got to the splash screen, so I thought I might be able to debug the "A3" from the BIOS screen. The "0d" is only when the USB keyboard is plugged in. I was hoping someone had a workaround that didn't require me running to Best Buy for a PS2 (sadly, no adapter with the Razer Ananzi USB keyboard).

Well if its a bios/uefi setting problem, flashing the cmos will make any usb issues go away, well in theory.

I had a similar problem with my gaming mouse where it would throw a B4 at me with it plugged in. (BTW, with several cmos flashes, it eventually "went away" but there are similar reported issues with this motherboard and it dealing with legacy usb devices upon boot. )

Do you have a non gaming keyboard lying around? With the cmos reset and a standard keyboard, should work.

Do I hit the CMOS with the machine powered on? Off, but plugged in? I have no idea.

I do it powered off but plugged in. I hold it for 5 seconds then release, then it should boot reset.

Thank you very much for your patient support. Another AsRock board had a thread with a simialr problem. Conventional wisdom said to try flashing down the BIOS from 1.1 to 1.0, but I can't even get to BIOS to try it.

Hmm, have you tried plugging in the keyboard after it passes POST without any boot devices plugged into sata? Once the keyboard powers on, and its still on the splash screen, might let you in then?

I will give it a shot if clearing the CMOS doesn't help. Thank you!

How did it go?

I might have forgot to ask the obvious question. That system will boot so fast that you wouldnt even have time to see the time to hit F2 to hit setup.

You hitting F2 as soon as the numlock led comes on? Screen doesnt even come on for me yet.
