Help Determine New Build
It has been way too long since I've built a computer.

I think the last build I actually did was a 1.2 Ghz Athlon XP, the computer I have been using since then, is one my friend built.

Anyway, I'm DYING to get something new and feel like I can actually enjoy some of the games I've been trying to play. Fallout: New Vegas and Skyrim would be some of the ones I would want to play, and I'd also like to enjoy 1080p video playback as well.

With this new computer I want to conserve money but also build a system that will be easily upgradeable later down the line. I am a fan of AMD, so I'd want to go with them.

What suggestions might you have for a solid system under these specifications? What would you do if you were in my shoes? I would love to see what you guys think as I can't stop thinking about getting a new computer finally.

I don't have the money saved up yet to purchase it, so I can only fantasize, but I am working and saving. I tried to use the bill me later type services TigerDirect and Newegg have but I was denied for some reason. Anyone happen to know of a way to buy now and pay later? lol

RE: Help Determine New Build
If I wanted to stay with AMD and was looking to build a new system right now, I would get an OEM Phenom II 920 X4 2.8ghz, buy a good cooler, and overclock it. The new FX series are pretty expensive and aren't that impressive. Even losing sometimes to the older Phenom IIs. As for Skyrim, I've read that it is pretty even between GPU and CPU, meaning you shouldn't buy a cheap CPU then an expensive GPU or the other way around. Which CPU you get should determine what GPU you should buy.

When you say which CPU I get should determine what GPU I buy, what do you mean exactly?

Thanks for your input!

RE: Help Determine New Build
I mean don't buy a really expensive GPU then buy a cheap CPU. In some cases, buying an expensive GPU and a cheap CPU is fine because the game is more GPU intensive. In Skyrim's case, it is well oriented between CPU and GPU. In other words, to efficiently play Skyrim with as little bottlenecking as possible, you need a balanced system.

Tier 1 OC of the Budget Gaming PCs would be a solid AMD build that's ready to be overclocked and can also be upgraded down the road: http://www.hardware-revolution.com/budge...mber-2011/
