What's up from NY
Hi guys, been on the forums for awhile as a reader but just recently joined. Love the site! The computer building articles are so helpful. Anyways I recently decided to give my computer an overhaul, basically a new build with some carry over parts, let me know what you guys think. I purchased a lot of the hardware during the black Friday week. Computer will be used for gaming, FPS, skyrim and racing games.
I5 2500k
HD 5870
8 gig ram G.skill 1600
Samsung 1tb spin point
Seasonic 620w 48A
I still haven't purchased my mother board but I plan on purchasing the asrock p67 gen 3 as recommended by the mid tier article.
Thanks guys!

RE: What's up from NY
Welcome to the forums! We've got quite a few guys from NY on the forums, such as AndrewJ, Brian and most likely quite a few others too.

Looks like a solid PC there. Considering that you're going with a Core i5-2500K (Unlocked multiplier), I assume that you intend to overclock it, right? In that case, make sure to get an after-market CPU Cooler, such as the Corsair A50 or A70, which both offer great performance at a reasonable price.

Cheers,
Mathieu

P.S. Love the profile picture lol Big Grin

Thanks Mathieu, and yes I plan on over clocking, thanks for the CPU cooler recommendation as I haven't purchased one yet. Forgot to add that all the goodies are going into a three hundred illusion case that I already use. Mathieu what do you think about my choice with going with the 5870 GPU? I know it's last gen but my monitor is only 1680x1050 and I hate mail in rebates and got the card for $150. I can always upgrade in the future I figured after the new AMD cards are released. Guns and coffee lol.

RE: What's up from NY
Good case with great cooling, no problem there.

Previous generation doesn't mean much, what matters mainly is performance and the Radeon HD 5870 is faster than the $175 Radeon HD 6870 in the majority of situations, so a Radeon HD 5870 at $150 was a great purchase and will have no problem handling the latest games maxed out at 1680 x 1050.
