PSU chirping...
There is a high pitch noise coming out plugin on the back of my PSU. I believe it sounds like it is arching inside the connection. Anyone have any ideas?

PSU Antec BP550 Plus 550W
MSI GTX 460
i5 2500
H67m Asrock MOBO
8gb GSkill ram
Corsair Force 3 SSD
Samsung F3

I don't over clock but my video card is preclocked.

Get in touch with Antec, you should be able to get it replaced without any problem. It's not something to worry about right now, but it's not good for long-term reliability, could be a sign of a early failure.

Thanks for the advice, I still need to use my computer until the end of this week so if its long term damage I can still safely use my pc!

One week should be fine, but I'd recommend keeping the load at a minimum, as in avoid gaming, video conversion and other demanding tasks that will put an higher load on the PSU.

RE: PSU chirping...
Out of curiosity, I borrowed my friend's PC Power and Cooling 750w Silencer MK II to see if that also made a chirping noise. He's never had any noise out of it other than the fan. However, on my rig, the chirping still continues even with a different PSU. Can there be another cause of this?

My specs,

ASRock Extreme4 Gen3
i5 2500 (non k)
2x MSI GTX 460 twin frozr II
2x4gb Crucial 1333 ram
samsung f3 320gb
corsair force 3 60gb
antec 300

mx518 mouse
samsung blu ray drive
corsair a50 cooler

RE: PSU chirping...
Sounds like the sound isn't coming from the PSU in the end. Try to pay close attention to components that could be the culprit, such as the fans, motherboard or video cards.

RE: PSU chirping...
If chirping is a precursor of a failing capacitor then could also be motherboard, soundcards, video cards I would suspect. I had them fail on an old nVidia card once.

RE: PSU chirping...
I also had a chirping noise coming from somewhere I didn't know, it literally froze whatever I did every time I heard it. All I could do was move the mouse, but click anything and it wouldn't respond. When I built my new PC, I reused a hard drive, now I hear that weird noise too on the new PC, so its definately the hard drive. I guess you could try to do a process of elimination, take out non essential parts and run the PC see if the problem disappears.

RE: PSU chirping...
Ok, there's something odd. I completely unplugged everything from the PSU except for the AC power cord, and its still chirping. Did I just messed up this PSU?? Could it be my outlet?
