So a friend gave me a new AMD Athlon II X4 630 that he had laying around. And so since I haven't really done much with my money this year, I figure I might as well treat myself to a nice budget gaming computer. My budget is 400 but the max is 500 . I already have the OS, Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, speakers and Videocard. I want to overclock it from the base clock of 2.8 Ghz to something like 3.5 Ghz give or take .1 or .2 but 3.5 is my goal for it. I hear the Cooler Master 212 plus gives a lot of bang for your buck and more so when you add a second fan to it. I was also thinking about a Corsair A70 too. The videocard i have for the build is my ATI HD 4650 512MB. I hear the Samsung F4 is pretty darn quick and snappy compared to the WD Black Hard drives. I think a PSU rated about.. 450W or 500W will be more than enough yes? Will a 5770 be overkill for the monitor that can support a max of 1280x1024 res or will the 4650 be more than enough for any game that I would play max settings on? And as for a motherboard, something that is great at overclocking but without being more than what I need. I'll for sure just run one videocard and USB3/SATA3 is something I don't really care much for at the moment.
I'll just list what I have and what I need/want input on. CPU: Athlon II X4 630 Already have Motherboard: Looking for great overclocking motherboard PSU: 400W-500W with good power efficiency RAM: 4GB that easily lets me hit 3.5 overclock GPU: Already have 4650 512mb Case: Something that can possibly fit 5770 for future upgrade with great airflow. I hear the Rosewill destroyer is great or antec 300. I was also told about the HAF 912 as well. Cooling: 212+ with pushpull configuration or something that can cool a 3.5 overclock even at 100% loads. or will I have to resort to the H50 or A70? HDD: I want to get 2 Samsung F4 is RAID 0 to lessen the HDD bottleneck DVD drive: Sony or Liteon, I'm guessing any of the highest rated will do? Monitor:19inch max res 1280x1024 OS: Windows 7 already have The upgrade to the 4650 is not a must at the moment, but I will eventually upgrade to something better in the future. Did I miss anything? Any and all help and input is and will be greatly appreciated! :] I am currently using a Dell Dimension E510. Pentium D805 @ 2.66Ghz (dual core) 3GB RAM. stock 512MBx2 Dual Channel @ 667MHz + 2GBx1 kingston valueram @ 667MHz IDE Sony DVD burner 4650 HD 512MB that replaced the stock X300 SE 128MB Generic Dell OEM mobo 305W PSU 160 SATA WD HDD 19inch 1280x1080 res monitor. |

RE: PC built around Athlon II X4 630 + want to OC
I can't really comment on most of your questions, but for the Cooler Master 212, make sure you have a decently large (wide) case... I just put one on an i7-870 system I'm building in a 922 HAF (?) case. It fits fine, but it's a large case (I LOVE it). The cooler appears capable of cooling a Chevy 454
