My first build...looking for advice
Hi there, I'm new to the forums and honestly I don't really ever post in forums anywhere. The reason I'm here is that recently I've decided to build my first computer, it’s actually become a bit of an obsession lol! I used to love PC gaming back in the 90's when I was a teen (love the mouse/keyboard combo over any console controller), so I came to the conclusion that I would get back into it. My goal is to build a rig that can handle most of the games out there with some future proofing. When I stumbled onto HR it was by far the most helpful and informative site I've come across. I would like to hear any recommendations to make this build better but cannot afford to spend much more than what is listed (I do have some breathing room). So without further ado this is what I've come up with so far:

CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K

MB - ASRock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

SSD- Corsair Force Series GT 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive

HD - Samsung F3 1TB

GPU - EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 (I plan on getting a second for SLI down the road)

PSU - Corsair HX850 850w PSU (went with 850w for possible SLI in future)

CPU Cooler - Noctua NH-D14

Case - COOLER MASTER Storm Sniper (like the looks better than HAF series)

Monitor - ASUS VW246H 24"

OS - Windows 7 64bit Home OEM

Thanks in advance for any help or tips you can give!

RE: My first build...looking for advice
It all looks fairly solid to me, with the exception of a hard drive. I'm guessing you accidentally left it out, but if not, you should look into at least a 750GB one.

I'd agree - fairly solid build. I'm curious what latency you ended up selecting for the RAM, as it's not clear. CaS 9/1600 seems to be the price/performance sweet spot, but perhaps you got a deal somewhere on something lower?

Here's a link to the RAM:

Also I was wondering if the HX850 PSU will be enough when I eventually add another GTX 570 SC for SLI?

RE: My first build...looking for advice
The RAM is good. The PSU is more than enough. However, I wouldn't recommend it unless you are POSITIVELY SURE you are going to get another GTX 570. By the time you upgrade, there may be much better options on the market, and from what I've heard, most people who say they upgrade may not end up upgrading.

RE: My first build...looking for advice
Yeah, as long as you're not heavily overclocking, 850W will be fine.

RE: My first build...looking for advice
I do plan to do some overclocking on the CPU but intend to leave the GPU's alone as they come factory overclocked. So my question would be how much overclocking would be reasonable with this set up? Thanks again guys for all the responses!

RE: My first build...looking for advice
Overclocking just the CPU should be fine.
