Ehh, I heard the 870 is a bad overclocker, but it has everything I'll need at stock, so the cooler master is a cheap, effective alternative. Only $15 with the MIR.
I'll consider the Noctua in future builds or as an upgrade.
Just bought cooler + thermal compound, $25 in all.
Rest of the parts! Does the microcenter have discounts on i7-870s?

This is actually quite a poor time to buy a processor/mobo since AMD and Intel are both changing sockets soon, but, whatever.

Actually, MX-4 is the best. A tad better performance than AS5, but more importantly, it's non-conductive, so if you drop any on an electric contact, no worries.

Another question.
SLI performs better in the LGA 1136 socket, doesn't it?
Is the difference so great that it'd be worth returning the dual channel RAM I bought for a tri channel and buying a more expensive motherboard?
I hope it's negligible. Planning on an i7 870 and an ASRock P55 EXTREME4 LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard here.

SLI does perform better on the LGA1366/X58 platform, but only by a mere 2% on average.

However, 16x/16x offers the advantage of being more future-proof, as in at one point in the future, if you upgrade your video cards to whatever is the latest cards then, 8x/8x is most likely going to limit your performance.

In short: It doesn't make enough of a difference, performance wise, to be worth upgrading based on that alone. But it can be worth it, if you intend to upgrade your video cards down the road, say in 2-3 years.

Alright, thanks.
I won't bother moving to 1366 then, this system will stay as is for quite a few years.
Will this power supply cut it?
I used the eXtreme calculator, says I need 500w, but what about the amperages (not familiar with this, hope you know what I'm talking about)

Intel changes sockets quite frequently though, so I don't think going 16x/16x right now will have much of an advantage in terms of future proofing. There's no nice way to say this, but that mobo will have an outdated socket in about six months. Blame Intel.

Don't mind that, won't upgrade CPU for a long time.
Okay, bought the antec 750w PSU, did some reading and I'm pretty sure it'll work out fine.
Going to a microcenter tomorrow to grab an 870 and the rest of my parts.

Okay, got an optical drive $17. i7 870 $230, and an msi p55 gd65 for $120. Just the hard drive and rebates and I'll have a gtx 460 sli i7 870 system for $900 Big Grin
