RE: Sandy Bridge is out
I'm curious: Why a SSD? Modern 5,400rpm HDDs are quiet (Heck, I have two 7,200 rpms 3.5" drives and I only faintly hear them when I'm transferring a LOT of files or doing a defrag.), have higher storage capacity and cost way less.

RE: Sandy Bridge is out
My only reason that I wanted a SSD over two WD Green HDDs is because I already have a file/media server that I would store all the things I need on it. I still haven't fully decided on that because of how fast it can save the data on the networked drive compared to saving it on a local drive and then moving it later.

RE: Sandy Bridge is out
Will a lga 1155 mobo need a PLX chip in order to run SLI/CF and a SATA 6G at 8x/8x and 6 Gb/s?

It all makes sense now. I'd say that it would probably be a tad slower, transfer rate wise, on the networked drives, but it would take one step less, thus making it faster. Mark: "Will a lga 1155 mobo need a PLX chip in order to run SLI/CF and a SATA 6G at 8x/8x and 6 Gb/s? " As far as I know, nope, since P67 has two integrated SATA 6.0Gb/s channel and more bandwidth available then P55.

RE: Sandy Bridge is out
Thanks Mathieu,
I am trying to decide between the UD4 and Asus p67 Pro board, do you have a preference for a Sandy Bridge mobo atm? I am looking for something that will support SLI and a Sata 6 and will be a good overclocker. P.S. It doesn't have to be a Gigabyte/Asus board, I am open to suggestion. Also, what freq/CL do you recommend for OCing? I was going to go with a G Skill 2x2GB 1600 Mhz with CL9 but I am worried if the timings would be too loose for OCing but since OCing a SB doesn't touch bus speed and only multipliers, that might not even matter. |

If you want to literally make it silent consider this power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817151099

RE: Sandy Bridge is out
A completely silent HTPC? I like that idea. Sounds like a challenge to me

So far the most silent HTPC I've found was 18dBa at full load. Good luck! ![]() |
