Good news, and more good news - zanthal - 12-03-2010
Good news first:
I got all the parts today, and put it all together, and badda-boom, it powered up, and BIOS recognized all the hardware on the first try.
Bad news:
The copy of Windows 7 Ultimate edition I ... ahem, acquired, did not boot.
And of course I tested all the usual suspects, it was attempting to boot from the optical drive, the optical drive was recognizing other disks normally.
Meh. Six hours of work and now I have to either put up with using my shiny legitimate copy of Windows XP home edition, or find some other means.
Still feel good though, with just a little help from Perrywinkle and that youtube video, and a lot of manual reading, I managed to get the whole thing in one piece.

Could always install a linux distro or just use windows xp lol. Did you take pictures to share with use of you building it?

I did decide to go ahead and install XP so I could move forward with this thing.
Pretty dismayed to find out that no matter what I do the video card drivers won't install. Not the ones on the provided DVD, not the latest ones online.
Install always fails while trying to install the display drivers.
Apparently the system knows what video card it is, the Found New Hardware wizard called it by it's model name/number.
I know I've got it mounted correctly, with the right power, the video card fan is spinning.
Not looking forward to the RMA process.

Probably an XP problem, does not sound like a hardware problem. I know Radeon HD 5XXX/6XXX drivers do not work with XP. What error code do you get?
Also try this:

Can you link these updated drivers? I'm guessing I'm going to need one as well. I think I know what you got from ASUS, and once I get my OS figured out (i really want Windows 7, not XP), I'll be able to download that, but what did you need from Realtek? (can you link it), and did you just use the ASrock motherboard driver off the CD or get the latest version from their website?
