Perry's Build - Perrywinkle - 11-29-2010

It started like this, then we got problems.
Phenom ii x6 1090T
Crosshair IV Formula (In Hand)
G. Skill 4x4gb 1600mgz (Ordered)
Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 (Now sold out)
or HD 6870 (Sold Out)

I think I am going to just use my currect video card and wait untill these are back in stock or till new technology comes out and prices change. I was thinking about the 5770, but since I know my current one plays everything I use (Maybe not at top settings) it would only be a filler as well. So I am going to get my Processor now and just wait a little for my cards. Windows 7 Home 64 OEM is $99, or is it cheeper somewhere else? Or as a combo with the 1090T would also work. I see it for $229 most places.

Edit - Phrosty - Try not to double post Smile Here is the rest of your post.

Also thinking about just getting a SSD to put in there to load Windows 7 on and some games. Read the article Mathieu wrote back in the summer. Best deal I can find is on of the OCZ Vertex drives.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&IsNodeId=1&Description=ocz%20vertex%202&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20
Would I be better off with a faster one w 40-60gb or a slower one w 60-90gb? Will have other drives later for more space. (Probbly 2 F4 drives)

RE: Perry's Build - Jilow - 11-29-2010

If you want to game a lot off the faster drive you may need the extra space. However, if that's not going to be enough space, even with the 90gb, I'd just go smaller, and have a separate drive for storage/games. Hope someone can suggest to you a solid Video Card option.

RE: Perry's Build - Warden - 11-29-2010

I believe newegg has windows 7 64 bit for system bulders for $85 at the moment

RE: Perry's Build - Rook - 11-29-2010

Newegg does has Win 7 64bit for $85.
You can usually knock it down $10 more if you combo it with another product. I did it with the Anted 200 case that was $35 friday. only cost me $110 for the pair

RE: Perry's Build - Perrywinkle - 11-29-2010

Newegg moved it back to $99 for cyber monday. Sad I'll be getting it from them anyway I guess.

RE: Perry's Build - MathieuB - 11-29-2010

Video Card wise, I'd get the MSI Geforce GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack, which outperforms both the Radeon 6850 and 6870, for $215.

RE: Perry's Build - Perrywinkle - 12-01-2010

Since I don't have a HD monitor yet and won't until tax time year at the earliest, would I be better off just getting one of the higher end cards now and running it single or getting two cards like the 5670 and running crossfire w those and see what the future brings in GPU technology and monitors for me?

RE: Perry's Build - Andrew J - 12-01-2010

Get a higher end card and run it single. Two 5670s are very inefficient when run in CrossFire, unlike the GTX 460s which can scale ~90%.

RE: Perry's Build - Perrywinkle - 12-02-2010

Ok, final decision. Going to have my wife pick up on Saturday, 2 MSI Geforce GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack cards with my 1090T processor. Getting a 0% card from Microcenter for these last items so I can get the better cards. Once I get my hard drive that I ordered tonight (3 days shipping) I'll be able to get this together. I'll post build pics as I put it together.

Perry's Build
Phenom ii X6 1090T ($229)
Crosshair IV Formula ($141 Openbox at Microcenter)
G. Skill Rip Jaws 16GB 1600mhz RAM ($200 probbly only use 8GB)
X2 Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 ($500) (Maybe one for now then get 2nd later.)
G. Skill Phoenix Series 60GB SSD ($130)
Master Cooler Pro Silent Gold 800w PSU ($100)
Master Cooler Storm Scout Case ($50)
Asus 24X DVD Burner ($18)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit ($90)

Total $1458 minus $45 in possible rebate money back.

So I hope I didn't forget anything. Again thank you everyone for your help and input. Mathieu and Andrew, thanks especially to you guys.
More hard drives later when I get some extra money. Also the new monitor is going to be on my list for later.

*Microcenter is sold out on everything I was going to pick up from them, again. So ordered 1090T and 6870 and x2 F4 spinpoint from newegg. I think micrrocenter is going to be on my list of people I hate. Smile

** So my credit card company blocked my purchase this weekend as they thought it may be fraud. So I am trying again this morning to get it to go through.
