Stuck on Windows screen - Lambshanks - 09-08-2012

Hello all,

I recently moved to Japan from America, and I brought my desktop with me. I built it according to the suggested mainstream gaming PC back from April 2011 or so (so the computer is about a year and a half old).

Anyway, I believe that the computer got damaged during transit, as when I boot it up it gets stuck at the windows screen (the black screen where the windows logo shows up). After doing a system repair, it says that system repair could not successfully repair anything, and I got this readout:

Problem Signature:

Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline
Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
Problem Signature 03: Unknown
Problem Signature 04: 21200442
Problem Signature 05: autofailover
Problem Signature 06: 4
Problem Signature 07: NoRootCause
OS version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033

I have tried doing a system restore and booting in safe mode. both failed. I also tried to boot from my CD drive using a Seatool ISO to attempt to identify problems with my HDD (The 1T SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3). However, the CD doesn't boot, even though I changed the boot priorities in the BIOS. I don't have a SSD, so I think the problem is with the HDD.

If anyone could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

I'd start by double-checking all the cable connections to the motherboard and to all the components. It could simply be a case of a cable connection that got loose during transit.

Finally had time to work on the PC, and I tried reattaching everything, but to no avail.

I am beginning to think the problem might be the SATA plugs for my mobo, as I tried replacing the sata cable to my HDD, but it didn't do anything. That, combined with my diskdrive not booting from disk, leads me to this conclusion.

Is it possible to replace the Sata plugs on a Mobo or do I need to scrap the entire thing?

It might be that your Windows that is corrupted, not the hard drive.

Well, he can't boot from his Windows CD either, so it's more than likely the motherboard that is damaged.

Unfortunately you can't replace the SATA ports on a motherboard. And for all we know, it might be the SATA ports, it be the chipset or another part of the motherboard that is damaged, preventing your PC from working properly.

Did you tried swapping ram sticks? Because when i bought an used motherboard i had a problem that i could not install anything. windows setups BSOD, ubuntu kernel panic. Replaced ram stick problem solved. It can be that.
