New build won't turn on with chassi fans plugged in - Nolerhn - 01-05-2012

I'm going off a build posted in the budget gaming PC (it's the first computer I've ever built), here's a list parts that I've got.

Motherboard- ASRock H61M/U3S3 H61 LGA1155 USB3.0 SATA6.0Gb/s

Ram- Mushkin 4GB DDr3 1333MHZ

Video- Radeon 6870

HDD- Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB SATA 6.0Gbps

Optical- ASUS SATA 24X DVD Burner

Case- Cooler Master HAF 912 2 x 120mm case fans

power supply- Rosewill HIVE 550W 80 PLUS Bronze Modular

So here's my problem, if I have everything plugged in on the motherboard, the computer will not turn on, not even any of the fans. However, if I unplugged the two chassi fans from the PSU, the computer will turn on, but I still have a red light on the power button. The fan on the CPU and GPU will rotate though, if I have the chassi fans unplugged from the PSU. I've double and triple checked my chassi fan connections, and they seem to be plugged in just fine, but apparently they are not.

What should I be doing to troubleshoot this problem?

If there is any other information I should provide, please let me know and I'll post more information.

Okay, I figured out what was going on with chassi fans. I made the mistake of plugging them into both the power supply AND motherboard.

So now everything powers on, but there's one thing I'm worried about. The power button on the chassi is still red (I don't see any lights or hear any beeps coming from the motherboard though), however, I can enter bios just fine and the bios seems to recognize all of my hardware. So is there anything to fear then?

I'm not sure so I don't want to move on to install windows until I'm certain.

Yup, that would explain why your system wouldn't boot Big Grin

If you're able to get in the BIOS, then your PC is just fine. Proceed on to install Windows 7, let us know if you get any problems from there.
