CM HAF X SATA HD BAY Connections? - Tony J - 10-16-2011

Quick question - do the SATA connections in the slide out trays on the CM HAF X support 6GB? Thought I read somewhere it only supports 3GB. With the 6GB on most MB's now wonder whether to forgoe the trays and easy access and use the internal bays.
Thoughts comments anyone?

The port has to be connected to your motherboard. It will support 6GB if your motherboard supports it.

Thanks - Just realized the drives I have don't support 6 GB Sad

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Your motherboard does support 6Gb. Now to get faster drives haha. What's the difference between Sata speed 3/6Gb and the 5400/7200/10,000 RPM?

It's doesn't matter that your hard drive doesn't support SATA 6Gb/s, see why below.

SATA 3.0 Gb/s (SATA II) and SATA 6.0Gb/s (SATA III) refer to the speed of the connection between the drive and the motherboard.

However, the best hard drives reach about 160MB/s (or 1.6Gb/s) in best scenarios. SATA 3.0Gb/s is plenty enough to handle that and for hard drives, SATA 6.0Gb/s does not offer any performance advantage, since the hard drives can't even max out a SATA II 3.0Gb/s connection.

Only SSDs take advantage of SATA 6.0Gb/s due to their higher transfer rates.

5400/7200/10,000 RPM refers to the rotation speed of the platters within a hard drive. Higher speed results in higher performance, but also higher power consumption, higher temperatures and more noise.
