Full Version: New PC hangs when loading map in Counter Strike

Usually it happens from time to time like 50% of the time. Whenever I load a map or change into a new map in Counter Strike (Source), it would just stall. I try to remove it from task manager but no success.

I am forced to do a hard reboot because when it hangs from Counter Strike and I restart or shutdown, it just idles on "Shutting Down...". From there I am force reboot (not good).

Anyone know what the problem might be? Thanks ahead

sounds like a corrupted install. have you tried deleting it and letting steam reinstall it?

I reinstalled it, same thing still happens...
just remembered something, are you running high resolutions or dual monitors? if high resolutions youll have to lower them by going to steam safe mode and changing the resolution.

if using a dual monitor setup doing this seems to work, go to the steam apps folder for counterstrike, right click on hl2.exe and tick the compatibility tab on "disable desktop composition".

hope it helps.

I am running a dual monitor setup on 1920 x 1080. Maybe that could be it....I tried the hl2.exe, i checked the box and it still happened. How do i go into steam safe mode?
cant remember its been a while since my son had that problem, but i think if you launch options you should be able to type in -safe mode. then you can go in a lower your resolutions to something lower that what you got it set for. i think eventually he just ended up playing in windowed mode. got frustrated and just played it on a single monitor. xp never had the problem, just win7 and only in counter strike.

if that doesnt work you can always put in a steam support ticket, maybe they can help.
