Built a rig a few days ago using the budget system guide here. Second time building and was running great for a day or two but after running games for a few hours it freezes up and reboots with no BSOD and most of the time without any errors.

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB
SAPPHIRE 100314-3L Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz Socket AM3
Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-620 620W
Kingston HyperX Blu 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

The freezing and rebooting without error happened while playing Just Cause 2 a few times for a few hours and about a half hour later while playing Dead Island for 20 minutes the screen froze, blacked out, came back and an error appeared saying something about display drivers not responding or something like that. GPU temp was around 50-55 during one of my JC2 runs.

Tried benchmarking with FurMark 1.9.1 using default settings and 1366x768 res (and maybe 8X MSAA, not sure) and that crashed after 2/3 into it. GPU temp was around 65-70.

CPU temp was around 45-50 during each game. Using CoreTemp and GPU-Z.

Running 64 bit Vista Ultimate as I don't have a w7 disc/key ATM. All drivers have been updated.

Googling around told me to update drivers/return the card and one answer said the problem was with Vista.

I don't have any spare parts to switch with, though I might be able to use a friend's 5770 temporarily.

Is there anything other than the GPU that could be causing this?
Considering that the crashing happens during games and happened with Furmark too, I'd be inclined to say that your video card is unfortunately defective and that you should exchange it.

Your temperatures are fine, so that's not the issue here.

I'd test your RAM overnight, using Memtest86+, just to be sure. I'm pretty confident that the issue is with your video card though.
Err I think I have another problem that might possibly be the real problem? I'm hearing something rattling from the PSU. Something like except more sporadic.
A power supply that's rattling is definitely bad. Avoid using the PC as much as possible and do exchange the PSU.

This could indeed explain the problems that you're getting. I'd exchange the PSU first to see if that fixes the problem.
Well I replaced the PSU and now it's stopped restarting whenever I play things but I'm hearing things coming from the tower. At one point the PSU started clicking or whatever but after a restart it stopped. Then I started hearing other things from what I think is the motherboard. I've left the side panel off to see if I can hear exactly where it's coming from but I couldn't get it to replicate the noise with it off. Unfortunately I don't have anything to record what I hear but it sounds like something that's like...something electrical? Haven't seen any noticeable downgrade in performance.

I'm guessing it's another bad PSU and/or the motherboard?
Which psu are you using?
Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-620 620W
Are you absolutely positive that it's the PSU making the noise and not the graphics card?
I'm sure about the clicking from the PSU but the other things I'm not. I haven't really been hearing any noises from it after refitting things on the motherboard and didn't hear anything after running it without the card but I'm still worried about the clicking. It hasn't happened since but should I do something about the PSU?
